Swine Feeding Projections – May 28, 2018
Changes week over week:
- Downward pressure on the open-market value of both weaned and feeder pigs (-$1.83 and -$6.42/head, respectively)
- Flat to modest gains in predicted lean hog values for both the October/November and September/October markets (+$0.09 and +$1.75/cwt, respectively).
- Feed costs -$1.20-1.30 per head: corn -$0.10/bushel, SBM -$1.00/ton, DDGS -$0.25/ton, lysine +$0.50/cwt, and fat -$0.25/cwt.
- Open-market weaned pig profitability gained a small bit of traction (+$3.00/head), but remains well in the red.
Feeder pig profitability experienced a substantial leap forward (+$11.00/head), cutting expected losses in half.
