What’s New in Protein Balancing Beef Rations

Dr. Alfredo DiCostanzo, University of Nebraska

Balancing protein (or amino acid) needs in beef cattle is tricky.  Young calves, particularly those raised in a calf nursery, have vastly different needs than those raised by mom.  At a certain weight, all of this changes dramatically.  Older ( and heavier) cattle require that we balance protein fractions to meet the needs of rumen microbes and the animal. This session will help simplify these complex interactions so you can ask the right questions of your nutritionist.

Optimizing Implant Strategies with Nutrition & Time

Dr. Grant Crawford, Merck Animal Health

Implants remain the most economically beneficial animal health technology available for feedlot cattle producers.  Selection of the ideal implant program will depend on several factors, including type and size of cattle, marketing goals, labor and facilities, and current implant regulations.  This presentation will discuss these factors as well as discuss the ideal implant programs for various situations.

Other topics include:

Common Sense Management of Feed Efficiency – Brad Sik and Allison VanDerWal, M.S., Form-A-Feed

Silage Economics Management for Cattlemen – Troy Brown, Form-A-Feed

Beef-On-Dairy Cross-Feeding Strategies
