Swine Feeding Projections – June 18, 2018

Changes week over week:

  • Open-market value of both weaned and feeder pigs was down modestly (-$3.30 and -$1.07/head, respectively)
  • Mixed changes in predicted lean hog values for the November/December and September/October markets (-$0.84 and +$1.27/cwt, respectively).
  • Feed costs -$2.50-3.00 per head: corn -$0.14/bushel, SBM -$16.25/ton, DDGS -$12.50/ton, lysine +$0.58/cwt, and fat +$0.33/cwt.
  • Open-market weaned pig profitability improved moderately (+$4.00/head), with losses in the $6-7 range (substantially closer to break even than just a few weeks prior).

Feeder pig profitability also made a positive move (+$6.00/head) and finally broke into the black with profits near $5/head.
