Swine Feeding Projections – January 29, 2018

Changes week over week:

  • Open-market purchase prices were weaker for weaned pigs (-$1.77/head), but feeder pig prices continued their upward trend (+$1.30/head).
  • Predicted lean hog values were down modestly for both July and May/June marketings (-$1.31 and -$1.49/cwt, respectively).
  • Feed costs up sharply at +$1.60-1.70 per head: corn +$0.05/bushel, SBM +$6.25/ton, DDGS +$5.00/ton, lysine +$0.15/cwt, and fat unchanged.
  • The open-market weaned and feeder pig profits both took a substantial step deeper into the red (-$2.50 and -$6.00/head, respectively).
