Swine Feeding Projections – January 22, 2018

Changes week over week:

  • Open-market purchase prices were weaker for weaned pigs (-$1.88/head), but feeder pig prices continued their upward trend (+$2.79/head).
  • Predicted lean hog values were up moderately for both June/July and May/June marketings (+$1.20 and +$3.23/cwt, respectively)
  • Feed costs up sharply at +$1.20 per head: corn +$0.07/bushel, SBM +$18.00/ton, DDGS +$0.50/ton, lysine +$0.34/cwt, and fat -$0.12/cwt.
  • The open-market weaned and feeder pig profits took a modest step forward (+$3.00/head), but remain well in the red.
