September 2020 Cattle Feeding Projections

September Form-A-Feed cattle projections show some positive returns amongst the upcoming fall run.

As much as we have talked prior, being on top of the details and keeping cattle healthy and productive will return the biggest gains.

The cattle on feed report showed large placements through August which will continue to carry over through October when frost will typically move cattle off grass and into feedyards.

Currently the futures market shows some positive response to these movements with a hopeful trend it continues that way. Based on average hot carcass weight (HCW) continuing to be higher than a year ago it may be awhile before that extra volume lightens its impact on the market. A hopeful response is that the higher export volume will continue as we move through the fall and into the year ahead.

Continue to be cognitive of the ever sensitive markets as commodity exports draw demand and increase prices prior to purchasing.

Talk with your Form-A-Feed nutrition and production specialist about receiving protocols and ways to continue to track your feedlot performance as new calves come into the feedyard.
