Meet Form-A-Feed’s Swine Intern: Lisa Janak
Form-A-Feed is thrilled to have two swine interns joining our team this summer! One of those interns is Lisa Janak. We asked Lisa a few questions so you can get to know her:
Tell us a little about yourself: I’m from Northfield, MN where I live on a 14 acre hobby farm. On our hobby farm we have a couple horses, steers, pigs, dairy heifers, and chickens. I was in 4-H, where I mainly showed dairy, beef, and swine.
University attending: University of Minnesota- Twin Cities
Major: Animal Science with an emphasis in Industry and Business Management
Minor: Agriculture and Food Business Management
What activities are you involved with on or off campus: Gopher Dairy Club (President), Block and Bridle, MN Royal Exec (Events Chair), Beta of Clovia (Secretary), Collegiate Agri-Women. This fall, I’m also hoping to become involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters program.
What are you most excited about learning/doing in your internship with Form-A-Feed this summer: I’m very excited to conduct the nursery feed trial. It will be very informative and a great experience. I love walking through swine barns looking at the animals and learning about different diseases (symptoms and how to cure). I also have already watched a post-mortem, which was very interesting!
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us: I have my own dairy herd. I started it a few years ago, and now I’m up to 8 head.
What is one thing on your bucket list? Attend Cheyenne Frontier Days. I absolutely love bull-riding.
