May 2021 Cattle Feeding Projections

May projections are a mix of red and black as cost of gains (COG) continue to creep upwards. There are some fundamental buys with what the futures currently look like. Hope for some relief in the commodity ring continue to keep some feed yards speculating on lower costs of gains to come. These feed yards also are ones that have feed on inventory. Packers seem to be mixed, with some packers full until the middle of June, and others continuing to take current cattle. With inventories still in the yard it doesn’t look like there will be much demand within the next month or so to make buyers bid up.

Feedlot technologies continue to pay dividends back to the producer right now when managed correctly as an aid in improving digestion, maximizing gain and reducing COG. Feedlot implants with high priced corn are easily the highest ROI when looking at ways to improve feed conversion and lower COG. Use of enzymes, growth promotants and just plain attention to detail are key in squeezing every piece of efficiency out of cattle. Your local Form-A-Feed Nutrition and Production Specialist can help you choose the right type of technologies to help maximize dollars spent.

May is Beef Month! It is important to acknowledge the hard work and dedication that each of you put in every single day to help raise quality protein for our world. Form-A-Feed is thankful for the clients it is able to work with and to be apart of the feedlot team. Thank you for all you do!
