Nutrition & Production Specialist (Swine)

Position Objective:

The Nutrition & Production Specialist is expected to meet the qualifications as outlined below.  This position is a vital part to the overall success of our organization as a manufacture of animal feed and nutrition products and services.  This role is expected to support the company in our mission of “Feeding the World through Professionalism, Quality Products and Innovative Solutions”.

You will be proud to work for a company with a strong family history in the animal feed industry and opportunities to grow personally and professionally.  We are a company committed to family values, integrity, and innovation.  In this position, you will support the efforts of a specific species group, each specializing in their field of animal expertise.  Each of these individuals are dedicated to sourcing new clients and business opportunities.  You will work in cooperation with the sales and marketing team, increasing our opportunities to expand our feed business and gain market share, as well as assisting the servicing of existing customers.   In this role, you will grow, develop and manage your own book of business and the duties as outlined below.  In reporting to the Business Manager, you will source and develop new customers, aid in recruiting new team members and work to build and cultivate new business relationships in addition to assisting the servicing of existing customers.

This position reports to the Business Manager

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage a territory of business and grow market share
  • Learn, understand and communicate product knowledge and product usage to our customers
  • Provide nutritional expertise and advice in formulating nutritional ration support
  • Provide technical support for new and existing customers
  • Building relationships with our customers and sourcing best practices and testimonials
  • Provide technical support and services to new and existing customers
  • Take customer orders and input Purchase Orders as needed
  • Collaborate ideas and share species expertise within the team and translate this to our customers
  • Utilize rations and ration support to improve animal production
  • Provide trouble-shooting support, communicating timely and effectively
  • Assist sales and office personnel in formulation changes based on customer needs and requests
  • Effective presentation skills to provide technical training and nutritional expertise
  • Effectively communicate nutritional and ration support, formulations and technical detail to our customers
  • Additional projects required or directed by sales manager or species team lead, as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • S. or M.S in Animal Science, Ag Business, and/or qualified experience in Dairy, Beef or Swine Science
  • 3 or more years of on-farm experience, or feed industry research or education experience in the species related field
  • Multi-year experience in animal feed sales and nutrition
  • Excellent communication skills in a team setting and one-on-one meetings
  • Technical and computer related skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office and demonstrated skills in ration formulation helpful

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3 or more years of on-farm experience, or feed industry research/education experience in the species related field
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding analytical skills and a strong customer service mindset
  • Travel required, minimal overnight travel
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to succeed and works well in a team centered environment
