Business Manager

Position Objective:

The Business Manager is expected to support the efforts of multiple species groups, each specializing in their field of animal expertise.  Each of these individuals are dedicated to sourcing new clients and business opportunities.  You will work in cooperation with the sales and marketing team, increasing our opportunities to expand our feed business and gain market share, as well as assist in the servicing of existing customers.   In this role, you will grow, develop and manage a book of business and the duties as outlined below.  In reporting to the VP of Sales and Marketing and working with a team of Business Managers, you will source and develop new customers, aid in recruiting new team members and work to build and cultivate new business relationships.

 

In this role you should be prepared to work in a fast paced, team centered environment, that will challenge you and allow you to use your experience and expertise to develop the company and enhance your continued growth within the animal feed and nutrition industry.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meet or exceed company sales objectives
  • Effectively manage a team of Nutrition and Production Specialists and Technical Support Specialists who support and manage a sales business territory, assisting them in all aspects of business operations, growing market share and finding practical solutions for users of Form-A-Feed products and services
  • Lead and support the training and development of the nutrition and production specialist to further enhance sales and marketing skill sets and development of business objectives
  • Provide direction and training for farm evaluations and production – field sales training and daily operations
  • Evaluate and provide team members feedback on their sales objectives, business priorities and competencies
  • Assist team members in finding new business opportunities, accelerating company growth and margin enhancement opportunities
  • Develop nutritional expertise within the team to further enhance Form-A-Feed as a market leader.
  • Participate in effectively identifying, recruit and onboard new talent to the organization
  • Prepare and lead staff meetings that support the company mission and business priorities
  • Collaborate ideas and share species expertise within the team, listening and gathering team member feedback and ensure team members work together, sharing their expertise and experiences with the team.
  • Develop and communicate product knowledge and product innovation internally and externally
  • Provide nutritional expertise and advice in formulating nutritional ration support
  • Collaborate ideas and share species expertise within the team translating this to our customers
  • Provide trouble-shooting support, communicating timely and effectively
  • Assist sales and office personnel in formulation changes based on customer needs and requests
  • Additional projects required or directed by sales manager or species team lead, as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • S. or M.S in Animal Science, Ag Business, and/or qualified experience in Dairy, Beef or Swine Science
  • Business Planning and strategic development experience
  • Proven ability in building lasting relationships with customers, suppliers, and dealers
  • On-farm experience, or feed industry research or education experience in the species related field
  • Strong decision-making skills and experience in negotiating and developing new business
  • 5 or more years of supervisory and managerial experience handling multiple direct reports
  • Successful track record of problem solving and dealing with personnel related issues effectively
  • Outstanding analytical skills and a strong customer service mindset
  • Analysis of risk, risk management in the animal feed industry
  • Self-motivated with excellent communication skills in a team setting and one-on-one meetings
  • Technical and computer related skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office and demonstrated skills in ration formulation

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3 or more years of on-farm experience, or feed industry research/education experience in the species related field
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Multi-year experience in animal feed sales and nutrition
  • Demonstrated abilities in conflict management and team member development
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding analytical skills and a strong customer service mindset
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to succeed and works well in a team centered environment
  • Technical and computer related skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office and demonstrated skills in ration formulation helpful
  • Flexible to travel and be out multiple nights away from home as needed to lead business initiatives

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ability to understand complex data, formulations and information
  • Ability to stay strong under pressure, evaluating large amounts of data
