Swine Feeding Projections – February 5, 2018

Changes week over week:

  • Open-market purchase prices were up slightly for weaned pigs (+$0.36/head) while feeder pig prices continued their strong upward trend (+$2.32/head).
  • Predicted lean hog values were up modestly for both July/August and May/June marketings (+$0.32 and +$1.20/cwt, respectively).
  • Feed costs virtually unchanged per head: corn +$0.01/bushel, SBM -$7.00/ton, DDGS +$2.25/ton, lysine -$0.06/cwt, and fat -$0.13/cwt.
  • Very little net change in profitability with small opposing changes offsetting one another. Expected losses remain from $10 to $15 per head.
