Position Objective:

The Sourcing & Logistics Coordinator is expected to meet the qualifications as outlined below.  This position is a vital part to the overall success of our organization as a manufacturer of animal feed and nutrition products and services.  This role is expected to support the company in our mission of “Feeding the World through Professionalism, Quality Products and Innovative Solutions”. 

You will be proud to work for a company with a strong family history in the animal feed industry and opportunities to grow personally and professionally.  We are a company committed to family values, integrity, and innovation.  In this position, you will have responsibility for the sourcing, negotiation, logistics and contract management of a wide array of feed ingredient inputs and packaging materials.  You will work in close cooperation with the Merchandising, Pricing and Production teams, assisting in pricing, inventory management and seeking competitive opportunities.

This position reports to the Director of Merchandising

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

75% Operational Activities

Contract Negotiation

  • Supplier selection
  • Market intelligence

Purchase Order (PO) and Contract Management

  • Timely and accurate PO entry
  • Vendor pricing discrepancy reconciliation

Inventory Management

  • Maintaining adequate inventories to meet production demand
  • Reviewing and updating reorder points
  • Master Data management

Logistics Management

  • Ensuring on time and in full deliveries from vendors
  • Evaluate and execute on opportunities between production facilities and/or customers
  • Coordination with company fleet manager and outbound logistics coordinator

Vendor Relationship Management

  • Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships
  • Continually seek new or alternative options
  • Partner with Sales Leaders to ensure the most current nutritional needs are available to our teams
  • Assist in managing vendor/rebate programs with Marketing and Sales team

Internal Collaboration

  • Packaging, labeling and sourcing for Nelson Family Companies and Innovations Group
  • Inventory management for specialty items located in Waterloo, IA

 25% Strategic Projects

  • New ingredient evaluations – essential items include safety, reliability, quality and value
  • Strategic position management for ingredients purchased
  • Develop packaging strategy
  • Participate in sourcing & pricing team projects, as needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or related field, two (2)  years practical experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in a team setting and one-on-one meetings
  • Technical and computer related skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office and industry software
  • Comprehensive understanding of merchandising, quality assurance detail and inventory management
  • Knowledge and experience with supply chain management
  • Analysis of risk, risk management with strong decision making abilities, negotiating experience a plus
  • Ability to work across multiple locations and communicate effectively in a virtual work environment

Minimum Requirements:

  • Proven experience in ingredient sourcing and contract negotiations in lieu of degree, three (3) or more
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills with experience in quality initiatives and customer service
  • General understanding of merchandising, quality assurance detail and inventory management
  • Outstanding analytical skills and a strong customer service mindset
  • Some Travel required, minimal overnight travel
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to succeed and works well in a team centered environment
  • Selected candidate to work and office out of the corporate offices in Stewart, MN
