Formulation Specialist

Position Objective:

The Formulation Specialist is expected to meet the qualifications as outlined below.  This position is a vital part to the overall success of our organization as a manufacturer of animal feed and nutrition products and services.  This role is expected to support the company in our mission “To serve the livestock production industry through innovative solutions, professional services and customer focus.” 

You will be proud to work for a company with a strong family history in the animal feed industry and opportunities to grow personally and professionally.  We are a company committed to family values, integrity, and innovation.  In this position, you will assist in the compliance and certification of our Quality Assurance program, tracking, assisting and supporting our quality assurance activities and strategic projects.  You will work in cooperation with the Merchandising and Production teams, assisting in the integration of quality assurance activities that support our mission of quality products and innovative solutions.

This position reports to the Vice President of Sourcing & Analytics

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

   75% Operational Formulation

  • Daily process of dairy & beef custom feeds
    • Formulation system management
    • Tag creation
    • Pricing process execution
    • Product code activation
    • Nutritional/operational review of diet
  • Safety Data Sheet Creation & Maintenance
    • Ongoing process to ensure customers have access to SDS from FormAFeed
  • Best Cost Formulation
    • Daily/weekly process to ensure the most up-to-date nutrient profiles are maximized in formulation
    • Execution of nutrient update process across all locations
  • New ingredient implementation
  • Management of rework process


25% Strategic Projects

  • New ingredient/nutrient evaluation
    • Utilize advanced features in formulation system to evaluate and implement new ingredients
  • Facility optimization
    • Ensure each manufacturing facility is optimizing limited bin space with the most economical nutrient options


Collaboration Expectations

  • Nutrition Team meeting participation and execution of team projects
  • Sales team meetings and ongoing support of customer driven solutions
  • Sourcing/Pricing team engagement – execution and streamlining of core processes between formulation, sourcing, pricing, operations.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or related field, three years practical experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in a team setting and one-on-one meetings
  • Technical and computer related skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office and industry software
  • Comprehensive understanding of merchandising, quality assurance detail and inventory management
  • Knowledge and experience with supply chain management

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills with experience in quality initiatives and customer service
  • Outstanding analytical skills and a strong customer service mindset
  • Some Travel required, minimal overnight travel
  • Self-motivated with a strong desire to succeed and works well in a team centered environment
  • Selected candidate to work and office out of the corporate offices in Stewart, MN
